Virtuoso pianist Gabriela Martinez, who the New York Times described as "compelling, elegant and incisive," will join the Pacific Symphony for an evening of Beethoven under the stars. The symphony will perform the most famous piano concerto of all time, the regal, heroic Emperor, along with the great Symphony No. 7. Martinez has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including first prize and audience award at the Anton G. Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Dresden. With Maestro Carl St. Clair at the helm, the Pacific Symphony will show why the composer's masterworks have been audience favorites for centuries.

SF Symphony: Barantschik and Vinocour Play Britten's Double Concerto

Full Price:
$34.00 - $92.00
Our Price:
$10.00

The San Francisco Symphony, under the baton of conductor Kirill Karabits, spotlights violinist Alexander Barantschik and violist Jonathan Vinocour for a performance of Benjamin Britten's Double Concerto. Written as a tribute for Britten's composition teacher when the composer was just 18, the Double Concerto is a challenging piece that requires immense technical skill on both the violin and viola. Its youthful vigor is sure to challenge the virtuosity of the Symphony's Concertmaster and Principal Violist. The program also features Honegger's Pacific 231 and Sibelius' Symphony No. 2. First, let me get the lousy stuff out of the way. I'll preface my comments with the fact that Goldstar's service has been nothing less than outstanding. But last evening, our assigned seats were separated; in fact, they weren't anywhere even near each other. Goldstar's FAQ states, "Will my group be seated together? For events with assigned seating, as long as you buy your seats in one transaction, they will be together." I did my order in one transaction and the seats weren't together. And that created a hassle with trying to trade with other patrons. We shouldn't have had to do that.

It was our first experience with the Verizon Amphitheater, and it's truly a wonderful venue. We took a picnic dinner with us, and spread out on a picnic table on a big, grassy circle. You can also picnic in your seats, as the theater does have good seat pitch between yours and the ones in front of you. But the very friendly outdoor staff had suggested the grassy circle area so we went with that. A real delight.

The Beethoven concert was fabulous; the Pacific Symphony is wonderful, and so was the piano soloist. We liked this venue better than the Hollywood bowl; the acoustics are far better since the amplification doesn't need to be as intense due to the smaller size of the Verizon theater. So you're hearing more of the real orchestra. The two, big TV monitors are better placed, too. Our seats were very good, and were as described and represented on Goldstar's website.

Parking was $10; getting in was easy but quite miserable getting out because of the very slow flow. But I guess that's to be expected considering the theater holds 14,000 people. I think it was 80%-90% full last night.

We do look forward to attending future events here, again with Goldstar's help!

What a n ice evening with Beethoven. Picnic before followed by great music.

Plan on plenty of time to get into the theater . Many did not make the first movement and were not admitted until the second. And they were distracting.

Great performance...........the very, very, very, long walk from parking areas was SO MUCH LONGGGGGGER then the HollywoodBowl/Greek, certainly a negative. HOWEVER, the performance was GREAT! Especially G. Martinez, FABULOUS!

The Symphony offers moving musical experiences with repertoire ranging from the great orchestral masterworks to music from today's most prominent composers, highlighted by the annual American Composers Festival.
