Comprised of some of today's hottest emerging jazz stars, the Metta Quintet performs new commissions from internationally recognized jazz composers from around the world. These nations include West Africa (Lionel Loueke), Israel (Omer Avital), Cuba (Yosvany Terry), Puerto Rico (Miguel Zenon), India (Rudresh Mahanthappa) and the United States (Marcus Strickland) and each composition is inspired by both American jazz and the indigenous music of the composer's homeland. The concert also incorporates an imaginative use of video so that audiences get to know about each of the composers and the musical sensibilities of their countries.

Very virtuosic playing, but it wasn't described very accurately, so it wasn't what I was expecting. I'm not really a fan of this kind of jazz. I thought it would be more world music.

A totally unexpected type of presentation. Loved the way they combined music with the filmed "documentary". And afterwards, they were very engaging for all - particularly the large number of young kids in the audience. They seemed to have fun and were willing to play all night!

I enjoyed the educational aspect of the concert, especially the video in the beginning about the history of jazz. Although I appreciated the exposure to musical presentations of international composers and their regional influence on jazz, I didn't enjoy the music as much as I expected.
