On stage now at London's National Theatre is Shakespeare's great psychological thriller, King Lear, directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty). Take a virtual trip oversees with this National Theatre Live broadcast of the performance starring one of the great stage actors of our time, Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens). Adapted to a contemporary setting, this production of Shakespeare's epic tragedy has been called "complex and potent" (Evening Standard) and "awe-inspiring" (Time Out). King Lear is the tale of an aging monarch whose descent into madness leads to upheaval among family and country as both are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his prideful daughters. We are not music buffs. We just know what we like when we hear it performed.
The second selection was not our thing. Very disonant music without melody from our perspective. The performers were magnificant, however, in all three performances.
We enjoyed the music selections in the first and third programs very much.
