More Details
Tarang, an ensemble created and directed by Abhijit Banerjee, focuses on Indian percussion, blending intricate and catchy rhythms with melodies derived from Indian classical music. The Tarang ensemble consists of some of the masters of percussion in the Indian musical genre. The instruments- the tabla, ghatam and the morsing- provide the entire spectrum of sound, from deep bass, mid-range to high frequencies, all accomplished through natural sound modulations. The melodies are interwoven with a dazzling array of rhythmic structures, createting a vibrant, pulsating yet soulful blend of music.
Since its premiere in 2002, Tarang has performed on invitation at several prestigious venues in India. The ensemble first toured the US in 2003 and received rave reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle and the LA Times. Their 15-city tour included performances at several venues across the US and an appearance on CNBC.
