On stage now at London's National Theatre is Shakespeare's great psychological thriller, King Lear, directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty). Take a virtual trip oversees with this National Theatre Live broadcast of the performance starring one of the great stage actors of our time, Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens). Adapted to a contemporary setting, this production of Shakespeare's epic tragedy has been called "complex and potent" (Evening Standard) and "awe-inspiring" (Time Out). King Lear is the tale of an aging monarch whose descent into madness leads to upheaval among family and country as both are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his prideful daughters. A fine combination of talented musicians, dancers, singers and a story teller. Lively and full of fun and enjoyment. The last 15 minustes could have been cut as it had already felt complete before they went on just a wee bit too long.
This St. Patrick’s Day concert features fiddles, uilleann pipes, whistles, flutes, Irish harp, bodhráns, storytelling, singing, and the brilliance of Irish dance. Prepare to participate in a good old-fashioned Irish sing-along led by Dubliner Laura Turner.
Not to be missed, this event was a sellout last year and is sure to be a repeat performance this year. Faith n Begorra to you all and stay clear of those mischievous little leprechauns. You’re invited to be “Citizens of Ireland” for the day!
