An annual holiday tradition at the Barclay Theatre, the Festival Ballet presents its full-length production of The Nutcracker. Set to the cherished Tchaikovsky score, the ballet tells the timeless coming-of-age story of Clara, a young girl who receives a wooden nutcracker soldier as a Christmas gift. That night she dreams that her nutcracker comes to life and battles the ferocious Mouse King. As he and Clara defeat the wicked beast together, the nutcracker transforms into a handsome prince, who takes Clara on a grand adventure to the Sugar Plum Fairy's magical Kingdom of Sweets. This full-length, traditional production is choreographed and directed by Festival Ballet Theatre's Artistic Director Salwa Rizkalla, and features a cast of professional dancers and more than 100 Southern California children. Orange County Ballet Theatre, under the artistic direction of Dmitri and Jennifer Kulev, presents its inaugural performance at the Barclay. The performance will feature excerpts from the world’s most famous ballet, Swan Lake, with international guest stars in the leading roles. The dynamic Black Swan Pas de Deux will be performed by "Maria Kochetkova ":http://www.sfballet.org/about/company/dancers/view.asp?id=12340121and Gennadi Nedvigin (Principals, San Francisco Ballet). Selected dances from Act I and III will highlight some of Orange County’s rising young dance stars. Also featured in the performance will be the continuation of The Kabaniaev Project, an exciting collection of new contemporary works by the internationally recognized choreographer Viktor Kabaniaev.
