On December 19, 1952 in Austin, Texas, country star Hank Williams made his last concert appearance in front of 587 audience members at the Skyline Ballroom before passing away suddenly at the age of 29. In There'll Be No Sad Songs: The Last Concert of Hank Williams, singer/actor Kevin Kratzke brings Hank Williams' final concert back to life through spot-on renditions of his legendary hits. Thanks to the magic of theater, Texas Family Musicals crafts an uplifting tribute to the country music icon who recorded 35 singles and had 11 chart-topping hit singles in his short life, including "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Hey, Good Lookin'," and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Excellent seats-4th row! Jesse Lynch, on piano, is an excellent musician and storyteller, as are the two musicians, drummer and bass player, who entertained with him. They took us from the roots of jazz (in classical music!) through the decades of the 1900's into this one...very interesting mix of slides, music and commentary. I can't explain it any better than to say I bought the CD! LOVED it, and if he wants to do a Jazz 201, I would be the first in line for tickets. (my only discomfort was that the place was really cold for me. At the break, others mentioned the same thing...)
