The footlight club presents the timeless Oscar Wilde comedy, An Ideal Husband. Robert Chilton has the perfect life--a beautiful wife, a bright political future, a promising family, and engaging friends. All he has is threatened when he is blackmailed with a past indiscretion. All of this may sound like an all-too-familiar story. Though the play premiered in 1895, the story is just as fresh and identifiable today as it ever was.

Absurd Person Singular: Dark Comedy by Alan Ayckbourn

Full Price:
$20.00
Our Price:

The Footlight Club presents Olivier, Tony and Moliere Award-winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn's 1972 play Absurd Person Singular. Three couples host Christmas Eve gatherings in their respective homes over three successive years. On the first holiday eve, "lower class" but very much up-and-coming Hopcrofts are in their bright new gadget-filled kitchen, anxiously hosting a small party for their bank manager and his wife and an architect neighbor. The following Christmas Eve finds the architect and his wife hosting a party in their now-neglected, untidy flat. The final Christmas Eve finds the the bank manager and his wife playing host in their large but clearly dated Victorian-style kitchen. The dark thread running through this wild comedy of behind-the-scenes party disasters is the changing fortunes of three married couples. Learn More

Fine performance by accomplished actresses and actors. The set was a bit flimsy and uninspired but the wit of Wilde shined through. Wouldn't hesitate to return to the Footlight Club. Seats were centrally located, though they are not raked steeply enough to prevent poor sight lines, especially when the bozo in the seat in front of me wore his hat throughout the performance.

Great rendition of Wilde. The acting was superb. The footlight is a great venue. The place was not well heated though

Fun play, good acting, lovely costumes. The venue is small and old, but has its charm.
