Acclaimed violinist Leila Josefowicz and choreographer Jessica Lang and her dance company join the National Symphony Orchestra to perform Pulitzer winner John Adams' Violin Concerto in the final program of the NEW MOVES: symphony + dance festival. Called "a master of visual composition" by Dance Magazine, Lang sets original choreography to Adams' melodic and colorful 1993 work. Josefowicz's playing has been described as being full of "zest and fiery personality" (Chicago Sun-Times) -- a perfect match for this expressive, breathless work. Also on the program are Aaron Copland's Pulitzer-winning masterpiece of pioneer life, Appalachian Spring; Michael Daugherty's Superman-inspired Red Cape Tango; and Sinfonia No. 4 ("Strands") by George Walker, the first African-American composer to win the Pulitzer. You will not find a more fun way to spend an evening than at the Music Hall. This is everything community theatre should be: it has talent and a fine production, along with the energy and warmth that such efforts generate.
And British Music Hall numbers which are reprised in this revue are clever, witty, funny, and quite naughty (if you use your imagination as is intended.) It is wonderful that the British Players are keeping this tradition alive, and letting us enjoy what our parents and grandparents enjoyed earlier in the 20th century in England. (For those of s who are English and/or had English parents, we will remember hearing some of those tunes hummed around the house from time to time.)
Finally, the cabaret-style setup is comfortable, makes for a nice atmosphere - and the barmaids mae sure you have ample beer, wine, water, and other things to drink, along with nibbles, all included in the price.
It's just fun, and well worth the price.

The four of us at my table enjoyed the show with great glee. There were quite a few new acts. It was good to see "Legs" back dancing again. The complimentary refreshments served by the Music Hall Barmaids added to the enjoyment of the evening.
