The roundly acclaimed, Los Angeles-based Chicano/Latino performance troupe Culture Clash (The Mission, Water & Power, Zorro in Hell) returns with its American Night: The Ballad of Juan José. Written by Richard Montoya and directed by Jo Bonney, American Night finds Juan José feverishly studying for his upcoming U.S. citizenship exam. Suddenly, he's seemingly participating in pivotal moments in American history. American Night makes for a provocative, irreverent comedy about this country's shared past, set against its trans-border landscape.

Very good performance for Culture Clash, although you did have to have an understanding of history in order to get their satire at times, but i truly loved it, took my daughters to the show and they enjoyed as well. Definitely will see them again when they are in town.Written on Mar 02 2012

The mike on the main character was either off or turned down much lower than the other characters. As a result, my husband who has some hearing loss missed much of the dialogue. When I asked him what he thought of the play afterwards, he said he thought it was kind of silly.Written on Feb 28 2012
Since I could hear everything, I thought showing the silliness of much of our history was one of the main points.
On the way out, we noticed some hearing devices. It would be helpful to make those very prominent for patrons entering the theatre.
