When wallflower Charlie Baker goes on a getaway to a fishing lodge in Georgia, all he wants is peace and quiet. He can't avoid the other guests, though, so a helpful friend "saves" him by claiming he is a foreigner who cannot speak or understand English. Comedy ensues as everyone unwittingly reveals their secrets and scandals to Charlie, thinking he can't understand. What started as a serene getaway becomes a hive of drama and intrigue in this exceedingly clever and outrageously funny farce. Learn More

We went to the opening night preview-our first time at the Forum theater. What a wonderful theater. The play was very well done, the stage set was innovative and the cast "fit the part". We did have a bit of trouble hearing Professor Williams at times. Knowing the LJ Playhouse-that has already been addressed.

Written by and starring Claudia Shear
Directed by Christopher Ashley

Once a rising star in the exclusive art restoration world, Giulia burned all her bridges and now works alone in her refurbished Brooklyn garage…until opportunity comes knocking. When Giulia snares the coveted job to spend a year in Florence restoring Michelangelo's David, she soon becomes consumed by love for the marble giant. As her obsession with the David grows, she resists joining the vibrant life around her, despite the repeated encouragement of the museum's security guard Max. Torn between the eternal perfection of the statue and the delightful messiness of real life, Giulia must decide if she has what it takes to live outside the clean, anonymous safety of the museum.

Inspired by the actual restoration performed by one woman on the David in 2004 — in preparation for his 500th birthday — acclaimed playwright/actress Claudia Shear delivers a passionate, funny and inspired portrait of a woman who spends a year in the shadow of a masterpiece — and uncovers herself.

Restoration is an Edgerton Foundation New American Play Awards winner.
