My Husband & I both thought 'Spring Awakening' to be completely outdated & inappropriate for a student production, not because of the subject matter in particular, but because if the dialog, setting etc. we left at intermission & would have left after 5 minutes but were seated in the front!Written on Feb 13 2012

Nice job on set design, and overall appearance of the play. Delivery of the story could have been cleaner (but not as in censored). Wish there was live music, understanding that this wasn't the musical version. Found the play was slow to develop, dialog was hard to hear/understand, maybe get the actors with mic's next time. Venue had great parking, especially free parking on weekends.Written on Feb 12 2012

The performance was choppy. Many actors and actresses spoke to the back of the stage or the other wall. Several scenes were very moving and well acted. The end of act 1 was especially moving.Written on Feb 06 2012

Description
Spring Awakening
by Frank Wedekind
directed by Anthony Luciano
The knowledgeable heartthrob Melchior tries his best to explain sex to his doleful friend Moritz, but he seems more concerned about failing out of school than girls. However, beautiful Wendla learns more about the birds and the bees from Melchior than she may have bargained for as the play tumults towards its shocking end. Just as electrifying and erotic today as it was at its opening in 1906, Wedekind’s classic example of German expressionism explores the passion and confusion, the potency and destruction of adolescents coming of age in a time when pubescent urges were just not discussed.
This production is recommended for those ages 16 and older.
About the Ticket Supplier: UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance
UC San Diego Theatre and Dance has been one of the top-ranked theatre programs in the country for more than a decade. Graduate training is purposefully imaginative, eclectic, and interdisciplinary. We do not believe there can be--or should be--one approach to making work.
Thirty- four permanent and forty-two part-time faculty mentor two hundred undergraduate majors and minors, sixty MFA students, and a dozen PhD students each year. Our faculty are continually engaged at the highest professional levels, creating dance and theatre work in over one hundred theatres in sixteen different countries. Our Theatre District houses one of the most technically advanced and flexible performance facilities in the country, including a building devoted exclusively to Dance Theatre. We produce 15 productions annually, including the Baldwin New Play Festival, created for the development of new plays. Students create in six fully equipped theatres of different configurations and audience capacities and five performance-sized rehearsal halls.
The Department shares these facilities, shops and staff with the Tony award-winning La Jolla Playhouse, and MFA candidates receive professional residencies there after their second year. The department and the La Jolla Playhouse have collaborated closely for more than two decades; LJP fully supports the Department's commitment to developing outstanding new artists and new work that will engage diverse communities both here and abroad.
