As much a cultural phenomenon as a theatrical event, Cats enjoyed a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London, thanks to its feline-inspired costumes, sets, dancing and memorable songs by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story, inspired by a collection of poetry from T.S. Eliot, revolves around a tribe known as the Jellicle cats, and their leader Old Deuteronomy, who'll choose one of their group to be reborn that night after their annual ball. The longest-touring Broadway musical in history, Cats features 20 of Webber's timeless melodies, including the hit song "Memory," and was the winner of seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. I had never seen this musical before, or the movie, so I went somewhat unbiased but optimistic based on the play’s name recognition. The La Mirada production far exceeded all my expectations about stage production, talent, acting and humor. I laughed throughout the show and I also enjoyed the music, especially the 3 girls in the ‘hood.
There are no bad seats in this intimate theater, at least in the orchestra (I was assigned the 3rd row from the back until I moved up at intermission to one of the many open seats ahead of me). Very comformtable seats with plenty of legroom and great sightlines.
On the night I attended they followed the show with a “talk back” segment with the cast and I learned many things including that they rented the fantastic set from a Broadway tour and I received some insight into how the main characters (Audrey II and its voice) interacted. One person in the audience commented that he had seen the musical over 30 times and that this was his favorite production. I could understand why!
There are a couple bursts of adult language but otherwise I think this would be enjoyable for all ages, even children and seniors. I will attend other productions at La Mirada and I highly recommend others to attend this show!

Charming, tuneful and hilarious! One of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals of all time, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a down-and-out skid row floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, tough-talking, R&B-singing carnivore who offers the florist fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing its true self.
