Eliot, revolves around a tribe known as the Jellicle cats, and their leader Old Deuteronomy, who'll choose one of their group to be reborn that night after their annual ball. The longest-touring Broadway musical in history, Cats features 20 of Webber's timeless melodies, including the hit song "Memory," and was the winner of seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Master oudist John Bilezikjian has elevated the oud, an ancient folk instrument of the Middle East to the concert stage. He has performed for 53 years on this ancient eleven stringed instrument. The oud’s Persian roots reach back 2,000 years. The fretless instrument is traditionally played with an eagle’s quill.
John toured with Leonard Cohen for several years and is featured on Cohen’s albums. He appeared as soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra. His numerous Film and TV credits include: Schindler's List, The Prince of Egypt and The Postman Always Rings Twice to name a few. He has debuted original works written for him (Oud and String Quartet) at UCLA. He has been soloist with various symphonies around the world. He authored a book on Oud Methodology published by the Hal Leonard Company.
A violinist from the early age of 5 years old, John has appeared as soloist with the LA Philharmonic on the violin, oud, balalaika, and mandolin. He has performed on numerous CD’s and in concerts with Beverly Sills, Placido Domingo and Robert Palmer, to name just a few. In the world of Jewish and Sephardic music, John has made a name for himself performing with Theodore Bikel, Alberto Mzrahi, Judy Frankel, and Bonita Jaros.
