Merciless and near constant wildfires ravaged California in 2013. And whether it was Yosemite's massive Rim Fire or the flames that engulfed Big Sur, the culprit was the same: one of the worst dry spells in the state's history. In fact, Berkeley paleoclimatologist B. Lynn Ingram, author of The West Without Water, wagers this could be the driest year the area's seen in 500 years. Now Ingram and her co-author Frances Malamud-Roam come to Lafayette Library to discuss California's current water crisis as well as the future of climate change and its effect on water resources. Lisa Krieger, science reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, moderates this fascinating and pressing conversation sponsored by the Commonwealth Club. Learn More
