Laguna Playhouse presents Moonlight and Magnolias, a comedy set during the golden age of Hollywood. When producer David O. Selznick halts production of Gone with the Wind three weeks into filming, it falls to playwright Ben Hecht to rewrite the unwieldy script. The catch? Hecht is given just five days to do the job, and he's never read the book.

SUPER! The actors were fabulous and we laughed, as well as had tears well up in my eyes with memories of my favorite movie. This is a really neat venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Inexpensive prices for beverages & cookies. Walking distance of some great restaurants. Highly recommend. :)

This was a most delightful evening. I laughed and laughed. The imitations of Scarlet (sp?) were so right on. After a short walk from an excellent restaurant, an inexpensive cup of coffee and cookie were the perfect thing before settling in for the evening.

The performances at the Laguna Playhouse are consistently strong. Great acting and stage design. It's been a long time since I watch "Gone with the Wind" but this play made me put it in the Netflix queue. Go see it, you'll have fun.

Fabulous!! I have seen many plays at the Laguna Beach Playhouse and many other theaters. Moonlight and Magnolias will go down as one of my favorites. The set was beautiful, the cast of four all did a great job and the play was very funny and well written. A must see!!!

Description

By Ron Hutchinson
Directed by Andrew Barnicle
A Co-Production with LaMirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and McCoy Rigby Entertainment

Making movie history is not easy! Just ask film producer David O. Selznick, who stops the filming of Gone with the Wind three weeks into production because he wants a rewrite of the unwieldy script. He hires playwright Ben Hecht to do the job—in only five days! Only one problem: Hecht has never even read the novel. So, Selznick summons Hecht and Gone with the Wind director Victor Fleming to his office, locks the doors and closes the shades. Subsisting on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men spend five days crafting a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful films of all time. This wildly funny and engaging tale illuminates the behind-the-scenes business of movie-making during the golden age of Hollywood.
