Set during the rural economic slowdown of the 1970s, playwright Sam Shepard's universally acclaimed Buried Child resonates as strongly today as it did when it launched Shepard's career in 1978. A Pulitzer winner for drama, Buried Child makes for a fierce, forceful and unforgettable portrayal of the realities of the American Dream. The realistic masterpiece mixes comedy and drama, keen commentary and deep emotion in a squalid farm home occupied by a clan filled with suppressed violence, apparent unhappiness and dark secrets. Kenneth Kelleher directs this San Jose Stage Company production. Learn More
More Information About Cockroach Theatre Presents 7 Blowjobs
Description

Written in 1991, prophetically pre-Lewinsky, Wellmen embeds his political satire amidst the culture wars of the 90's. Although the issues over censorship, morality, sexual equality, separation of church and state, and privacy have evolved, this play stays relevant because it exposes the politics of fear and sensationalism that keep these battles brewing today. And let's not forget, the play is hilarious. So today, with more Americans engaged, and as a new generation hungers for a more civil type of politics, Cockroach Theatre presents 7 Blowjobs to give the audience a raucous remembrance of the divisiveness it hopes to leave behind.
The play revolves around seven salacious pictures delivered to the office of southern conservative Senator Bob. The lascivious photos seem to portray, well, 7 Blowjobs; each photo more depraved than the last. As they try to hide their arousal and argue over who is more offended, the Senator's staff attempts to decipher the origin and identity of the photos. Enlisting the help of the Senator himself and the spiritual guidance of TV evangelist Rev. Tom, we learn the truth about the photos. Revealing more than the acts they portray; they expose what may lie behind the smiles and speeches of our political and religious leaders.
