Sin City Opera teams up with Off-Strip Productions to perform two one-act operas at the Onyx Theatre. The two operas are thematically related, each having plots that center around telephones, and the two works will be completely interwoven, one in color and the other in black and white. Gian Carlo Menotti's comic The Telephone presents an exasperating situation that is especially resonant now that we all have mobile phones. Poor Ben has a very important question for Lucy, but his attempts to ask it are constantly interrupted by telephone calls. The dramatic tour de force The Human Voice (La Voix Humaine) by Francis Poulenc (performed in a new English translation) is a musical adaptation of Jean Cocteau's dramatic monologue of the same name. “The show is palpably sexy, even as it demands to be seen for what it is — an unforgiving commentary on our society’s view of feminine sexuality.” —Kansas City Star
It’s satirical burlesque with 21st-century attitude! In Sugar Puppy & The Lovely Dumplings, a buxom lineup of characters ranging from the sensual to the grotesque spring to life via the talents of physical comedienne Emily Lauren in an ever-changing world of masks and costumes.
