Dixieland Direct Jazz Band
Dixieland Direct Jazz Band at Montpelier Arts Center
Enjoy an evening of old-time jazz hits as Laurel's Montpelier Arts Center presents a concert by the Dixieland Direct Jazz Band. Playing the swing and Dixieland styles of Benny Goodman, Pete Fountain and other top bandleaders, the four-man group has been performing together across the nation for almost two decades. With a repertoire of over 500 arrangements of tunes by Scott Joplin, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and more, they combine enduring favorites with comical stage antics. Dixieland Direct's core quartet of Henning Hoehne on clarinet, Bob Boguslaw on piano, Dallas Smith on bass and Mike Flaherty on drums all come from the U.S. military bands, and they've performed at some of the best jazz festivals around the world.

Piano-jazz master Dick Morgan passed away in 2013, but his music lives on through the talents of his longtime sidemen, now dubbed the Dick Morgan Reunion Band. Morgan was a favorite at Montpelier, who even released a live album he and his band recorded there in '09. For this special show, his musical cohorts welcome Japanese pianist Tadataka Unno. A Japanese prodigy who started to study jazz at age 9, Unno conquered his home country's club scene before moving to New York in '08. Since then, he's released several albums and played the Kennedy Center. Learn More
