Jazz Bass Clarinetist Todd Marcus
Jazz Bass Clarinetist Todd Marcus at Montpelier
Todd Marcus, one of the world's only jazz artists to focus exclusively on the bass clarinet as a solo instrument, plays a show at the Montpelier Arts Center. In Marcus' hands, the bass clarinet is a very versatile instrument, able to switch from fiery intensity to creative introspection without sacrificing a lyrical approach to melodies. Marcus is based in Maryland, and has released multiple albums combining fresh arrangements of jazz standards with his own original compositions, which frequently draw on the musical influences of his Egyptian-American heritage.

Piano-jazz master Dick Morgan passed away in 2013, but his music lives on through the talents of his longtime sidemen, now dubbed the Dick Morgan Reunion Band. Morgan was a favorite at Montpelier, who even released a live album he and his band recorded there in '09. For this special show, his musical cohorts welcome Japanese pianist Tadataka Unno. A Japanese prodigy who started to study jazz at age 9, Unno conquered his home country's club scene before moving to New York in '08. Since then, he's released several albums and played the Kennedy Center. Learn More
