Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park is both an ingenious inversion and sharp-eyed update of A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's classic play about race and real estate. In 1959, a white couple sets off a community controversy when they inadvertently sell their bungalow to the area's first black family. Half a century later, roles reverse when a black couple clashes with a white couple who wants to buy and then "gentrify" the same house. The language of this Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play pulls no punches, but the conversation it inspires is worth it. Aurora Theatre opens its 16th Season with One Singular Sensation – A Chorus Line. Feel the drama of these dancers who convey the hope and pain of “what they do for love” in an unconventionally personal audition. Aspiring performers put everything on the line to fulfill their dreams of winning a role in a Broadway musical, hoping they will be the “One!”
Personal reasons helped inspire Anthony Rodriguez, Producing Artistic Director of Aurora Theatre to select A Chorus Line, “While I was a student at UGA, I got the opportunity to play Al in Hilton Head’s Production of A Chorus Line. I can remember, I was propelled by the promise of a budding career as a performer. Now as Zach, I want the audience to feel what it is like to be a part of an actual audition.”
