This warmhearted, humorous play that won Alfred Uhry the 1988 Pulitzer looks at the unexpected friendship between a fiercely independent Southern white woman and her African-American chauffeur. Set in 1948, the play centers on Daisy, an elderly Jewish widow who lives in Atlanta. After a driving mishap in which her automobile is demolished, Miss Daisy's son hires Hoke Colburn to be his mother's driver. Initially resistant, Daisy gradually starts to accept Hoke, and an unlikely friendship begins to grow between the two. Ultimately a sweet tale of friendship and devotion, the play also touches on the racism and prejudice that permeated the South at the time. Jill Jane Clements (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Rob Cleveland (Drumline) star. Learn More

The jokes were non-stop in this farce concerning a mother getting so caught up with her social status that she bankrupts the dysfunctional family in an attempt to win the Miss Piña Colada pageant. While a great play, it can be a bit difficult for non-Spanish speakers; there is a LOT of great physical comedy, but it is hard to watch and keep up with when watching the translation overhead. Also, the show is in one of the "side" theaters in the Aurora; which unfortunately means if you do not arrive early you are watching from a sideways glance.
Still, the acting was top-notch, and once I accepted I will miss the occassional line I started to really enjoy it. And the story was so over-the-top that it will have you laughing. Highly reccommend.
