Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park is both an ingenious inversion and sharp-eyed update of A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's classic play about race and real estate. In 1959, a white couple sets off a community controversy when they inadvertently sell their bungalow to the area's first black family. Half a century later, roles reverse when a black couple clashes with a white couple who wants to buy and then "gentrify" the same house. The language of this Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play pulls no punches, but the conversation it inspires is worth it. Melissa Foulger directs a powerful new production on the Main Stage of the Aurora Theatre. Learn More
Getting there was a little confusing. The Google Maps said the theater was on the right side of Pike St, so I missed it the first time. It's actually on the left side (going south towards 316). June 16, 2012: *_Flashback to the ’70s_ Concert
* It is easy to laugh at ’70s fads like mood rings, Mr. Microphone, the pet rock, and 8 track players. However, some magnificent music comes from that iconic decade and the Metro Jazz Club will be giving the big band treatment in their throwback tribute to such legendary recording artists like Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, and many more favorites. Come decked out in bell bottoms and fringe, because with all the Rock, Disco and Soul things are about to get funky at Aurora Theatre.
Led by jazz sax man Gary Dalton, the band is accompanied by a sultry chanteuse, the magnificent Maxine Cummins and crooner Jason Joines. The concert will also feature recording artist and one of Atlanta’s busiest musical theatre performers, Eric Moore (Christmas Canteen, Once On This Island at Aurora Theatre). Mr. Moore is a soulful tenor whose voice will lift your spirit and take you back to the ’70s in style.
