Gretchen Wilson was, in a word, FANTASTIC. She was in full form and couldn't have been better. The venue was absolutely gorgeous.Written on Aug 04 2009
The crowd was a bit tame - most of them sitting at big round tables with white table cloths - probably due to the venue. I don't know many country folks that would choose wine over beer, so it was a strange act/venue pairing from the beginning. But, somehow it worked.
Wente stopped serving all beverages, except wine by the glass, before the concert ever started. Again, strange, but probably for liability purposes.
All in all, a great night out with my girlfriends. I'll be back with my half price tickets again soon!

Description
To all appearances, Gretchen Wilson went overnight from talented obscurity to phenomenon. "The reason I've been successful is that I've been genuine from the get-go," she says, "and I continue to try to do that. I'm an open book."
It helps that the identity she wears so guilelessly is one that resonates strongly with fans of country and Southern rock- the independent, take-no-guff, hard-working and hard-partying country woman. On her own by 15, Wilson managed a bar outside of Pocahontas, Illinois, and sang for its rough-and-tumble patrons until she was old enough to join a cover band and sing as far down the interstate as St. Louis.
Dream and talent combined for Wilson in Nashville when John Rich and Big Kenny ran across her and she became part of the fledgling Muzik Mafia. Her first single, "Redneck Woman," spent six weeks at number one; her debut album, Here For The Party, sold more than five million copies; she won across-the-board awards including a Grammy and ACM, CMA and AMA nods for best female vocalist.
Now, with the release of her third album, One Of The Boys, Gretchen Wilson solidifies her position as one of contemporary country's most original and multi-faceted female artists. The album comes at a time when she is more contented with her personal journey as well. Beyond career and family, Gretchen has maintained an active charitable role, performing recently in clubs and small theaters to raise money for organizations like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Children's Miracle Network.
About the Ticket Supplier: Wente Vineyards
After learning about winemaking from Charles Krug, C. H. Wente, a first-generation immigrant from Germany, founded his own winery in 1883. Recognizing that the warm days, cool nights and gravelly soils of the Livermore Valley were ideal for growing grapes, he purchased 48 acres and planted vineyards. In 1918, C. H. Wente's sons Ernest and Herman joined the business, with Ernest managing the vineyards and Herman acting as winemaker. The company was later passed on to Ernest's only son Karl, and in 1977, Karl's young son Eric took the helm. Continuing the 125 year legacy, the winery is managed today by the Fourth Generation of the Wente family, Eric, Philip, Carolyn, and the Fifth Generation, Christine and Karl. The winery has grown to include over 2,000 acres of vineyards in the Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay and 800 acres in Arroyo Seco, Monterey.
