Kathleen Turner in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins
- Full Price:
- $67.00 - $87.00
- Our Price:
- $34.50 - $44.50
The Geffen Playhouse presents the story of Molly Ivins, the outspoken sharp-witted Texas reporter whose liberal journalism brought her national fame and a job at The New York Times, where she wrote Elvis Presley's obituary. Two-time Tony and Oscar nominee Kathleen Turner plays the fiery redhead, a self-proclaimed "pain in the ass to whatever powers come to be." Though The New York Times had hired Ivins to bring life to its staid writing style, her political edginess and controversial social commentary eventually proved to be too much, and Ivins moved on to Texas papers that embraced her sharp-tongued humor. This acclaimed show captures Ivins' unique character using personal anecdotes and her colorful take on national politics. Learn More

This is a great theater and over many years has (since the 1920's or 30's) provided first class entertainment. Unfortunately, this production was not up to the usual standard. Ray Cooney is a very funny playwright but in order for his style of farce to succeed, the acting and especially the timing have to be spot on. Some of the cast were up to the task, but others flubbed their lines and left some embarrassing gaps and silences. What should have been hilarious was mostly only smile inducing. Maybe I chose an off night.Written on Sep 21 2009
The theater and facilities (parking, refreshments, gallery, etc) are all excellent.

I have seen several Ray Cooney plays produced at LBPH. This was probably the best in recent memory. A solid production with nothing wrong with it that I could put my finger upon. Keeping in mind how technically demanding the quintessential British farces are, this is a very brave production indeed. Tally ho!Written on Sep 22 2009

Have seen many British farces in London and this one held it's own with good acting and fast-paced delivery. At first we were kind of alarmed at our seats (1st row right side) but it gave a whole new perspective. We had to keep moving our feet to let the actors through however. Great job by everyone. We laughed a lot!Written on Oct 30 2009

Description
by Ray Cooney
London cab driver John Smith has two homes—and one wife and one child in each house! Maintaining his hectic dual life requires careful scheduling. His secrets are put at risk when his son and daughter meet on an online chat room. When Dad learns that the pair plans to meet, chaos results. In Ray Cooney’s farce, characters are wacky and the action screwball.
