This was fun for a change-of-pace Saturday night out. There were four performers and a piano player on a blank stage; it was basically an evening of improvisation based on audience suggestions. As you would expect, there were moments of brilliance while some scenarios fell flat. Talented, quick-witted cast.

The material and presentation wasn't nearly edgy enough (nor that funny, which is the main point). Having seen and heard a lot of improv before, I know the actors were playing it safe and being quite PG mainstream. Of course, perhaps that's the kind of show you might expect from a group performing in venues such as the Carpenter Center.

Most people are familiar with Improv work via the (heavily edited)show "Who's line is it anyway?" This performance was similar, but without the benefit of editing.
The good: There were several huge laugh-out-loud moments. The performers are obviously talented.
The bad: They didn't seem to know when to end the musical sequences. Each one went on longer and un-funnier than they needed to be. The show also suffered from two other handicaps: The large theatre is ill suited for that type of interactive comedy, and perhaps most devastating, with the majority of the audience in the 60 year old and up range(season ticket holders I am guessing), the pop-culture comedy aimed at 20-40 year olds was largely met with silence.
We actually left at the intermission, after one excruciating hour of semi-funny. Though, as they are quick to point out, every show is different.
