Reviews & Ratings
Musical Theatre West presents the final production of their 53rd season, the all time classic – ANYTHING GOES starring Belle Calaway (The Will Roger’s Follies, Chicago_) as Reno Sweeney, Kevin Earley (Les Miserables, Titanic_) as Billy Crocker and Allyce Beasley, best known for playing Agnes Dipesto on TV’s “Moonlighting,” as Mrs. Evangeline Harcourt. ANYTHING GOES has music and lyrics by Cole Porter and features a new book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman with original book by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse and P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton. ANYTHING GOES will feature musical direction by Diane King Vann and is directed and choreographed by Dan Mojica (Zorba, Pippin).
The age-old tale of Boy-Meets-Girl and the complications that ensue are the basis for the story of ANYTHING GOES which features one of Cole Porter’s most glorious scores! The show is set on the Ocean liner “S.S. American,” where a delightful girl, Hope Harcourt, secretly has the “hots” for handsome stockbrocker’s assistant Billy Crocker although she is engaged to be married to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.
Going along on the ship are evangelist turned nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, Moonface Martin, Hope’s mother Evangeline and her old flame – Elisha Whitney, 4 “Angelic” dancers not to mention the sexpot Erma! ANYTHING GOES features terrific Cole Porter songs including the classics “It’s De-Lovely,” “Friendship,” “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “All Through The Night,” “Anything Goes,” “You’re The Top” and “Blow, Gabriel, Blow”. It’s a wonder that all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted aboard the magical ship where absolutely ANYTHING GOES!
