From outrageous Southern playwright/director Del Shores (Southern Baptist Sissies, Sordid Lives) comes the hit dark comedy about a greedy family looking to strike it rich. When Daddy Buford suffers a series of strokes, his offspring - pure hearted and greedy - gather for the deathwatch. They include chief caregiver Sara Lee and her "Bible-thumping" sister Lurleen, sexpot Evalita and Buford's boorish only son Orville.

Great play - all did their part to perfection. Marlene did a superb job with her part. It was as if you were actually sitting in the house witnessing everything that happened.

Very convincing. I'm glad I didn't miss this one!

It was my first trip to the LB Playhouse and I really enjoyed it! is Thursday night Senior Citizen Date night at the Playhouse? My boyfriend and I are mid-twenties and were definitely outnumbered!

I'm familiar with the play and it is really well written, but not all the actors were cast to perfection, sadly. It wasn't to the point, though, that it ruined my evening. I also sat behind the couch, but it really didn't bother me too much. There wasn't much to miss from the "living room" scenes. I recommend seeing shows at the Playhouse, but maybe not with this cast.

Growing up in Oklahoma this play reminded me a lot of home. Acting was great, the comedy had most laughing out loud, and there was just enough emotion to get the room to a dead silence. Like everyone else said, sitting behind the couch made me want to stand up to see what they were doing at the coffee table.

This was extremely funny;acting hilarious. Enough serious moments for balance. If you like comedies with some substance, this is the play for you. For Goldstar members, ask to be seated opposite the sofa, or it is difficult to see what's going on when actors sit there. That was one poor element; placement of sofa for theater in the round. Otherwise, wonderful.

Description

Buford Turnover is going to Heaven…his white-trash family is going through hell. In this outrageous black comedy, when Daddy Buford suffers a series of strokes, his offspring gather for the deathwatch. The family is evenly divided along the pure-hearted and the greedy. Among the former are chief caregiver Sara Lee and her “Bible-thumping” sister Lurleen, both on the side of the angels. Not so scheming sexpot Evalita and boorish only son Orville are solely interested in locating Daddy’s missing will.

The original production of Daddy's Dyin' - Who's Got the Will? opened in 1987 and ran for two years at Theatre/Theater in Hollywood. The film version, with Beau Bridges and Tess Harper, was released in 1990.

The play has been produced at more than 2,500 theaters.
