Having never seen the play before, I expected Fifth of July to be a quiet study of a couple of days in the life of a particular family. I expected it to be somewhat boring. I was wrong. Lanford Wilson's piece is full of crisp dialog and fascinating and unique characters. It is at times laugh-out-loud funny, touching and heartbreaking, and by the end of the play you really come to understand and care about these people.

The acting in this production is absolutely first rate, and I LOVED the set design. A shout out to the Long Beach Playhouse for another outstanding show.

The play goes on forever and meanders without ever reaching a satisfactory conclusion. The first act lasts for an hour and 20 minutes. The actors were generally very good. Too bad the material wasn't.

I only stayed for the first act. I have seen this play many years ago and it was a great play. The acting was mediocre as was the whole production.
