Winner of five Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Composer and Lyricist, the classic musical Man of La Mancha retells the timeless story of Miguel Cervantes' Don Quixote, as a play-within-a-play. The author Cervantes re-enacts his story of the mad knight, a dying old man who lives in a world of his imagination as he awaits his hearing in the Spanish Inquisition. The show features the songs "Dulcinea," "I'm Only Thinking of Him," "I Really Like Him" and the show-tune standard, "The Impossible Dream." Davis Gaines, best known for starring in The Phantom of the Opera for more than 2000 performances in Los Angeles, San Francisco and on Broadway, plays Quixote. Learn More

Gold Star 3-Pack Seating:Written on Dec 14 2009
The seats for Rent were the best we have gotten through Gold Star to date. We purchased the three pack of tickets (Rent, Sweeny Todd, & 1776) and picked up the second two performance tickets during intermission per instructions at Will Call. While the rest of the seats we received with the pack were not quite as good as those we received for Rent, they are still closer to center stage than we have had in the past. With that said, all of our seats we have previously purchased via GoldStar (The Producers, Little Shop of Horrors) I would consider very good for the cost and all of the MTW peformances have been well portrayed.
Rent Production:
I haven't seen Rent before and while it was different than I expected (larger cast, more complex scenes with a lot going on), my husband and I still found it quite enjoyable. Although I think we both agreed it was not our favorite production that we have seen to date (I think because sometimes it is a little more complex on the stage and a little hard to follow the full intent of the scene and know what the your main focus should be on), there were times both of us were all but moved to tears. There were so many amazing singers and several stand out performers. I would definitely recommend it though I think I had higher expectations - of the musical in general - since it is such a well known production. I think the actors and actresses did an outstanding job. There were a lot of vacant seats - that was sad to see - I would definitely go again and can't wait for Sweeny Todd!
Venue:
The Carpenter Theatre is a great venue - more personal than the Pantages (not a bad seat there) but bigger than the smaller venues that you basically have the actors talking directly to you. Will Call is easy to manage and parking out front is $5/car. There is limited street parking that we have never gotten even when showing up 45 minutes before the show. Dress is whatever you want of it - seen people in sneakers to ball gowns. I think some where in between is best. While some concessions are sold, only bottled water is allowed inside the performances and pictures are not allowed.
