Broadway star Davis Gaines, who reigns supreme with his run of more than 2,000 performances as The Phantom of the Opera, takes the title role in Musical Theatre West's revival of this all-time family favorite, a romantic comedy perfect for Valentine's season. The Music Man follows fast-talking salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments for a boys' band he vows to organize -- despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. The Tony-winning musical boasts a rousing score from Meredith Wilson, with memorable tunes like "Seventy-Six Trombones," "Ya Got Trouble," "Till There Was You" and "Goodnight, My Someone." Learn More

The event was falsely marketed. Richard Carpenter only played one instrumental and is daughter sang once while Dale and partner sang ~16 songs. It should have been sold as a Dale Kristien performance only.
Richard Carpenter was the reason I bought the tickets. I wasn't the only one complaining after the show. But, Dale was good - at least my Mom was happy.
Musical Theatre West is happy to announce the addition of Richard Carpenter and his daughter Mindi to the presentation of Home for the Holidays at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach.
Mr. Carpenter is best-known as one half of the Carpenters, one of the best-selling musical groups of the 1970s. Both Richard and his sister Karen are alumni of California State University, Long Beach and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center is named in their honor.
Also appearing in this edition of Home for the Holidays: Broadway’s longest running Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, Dale Kristien. Bill Hutton (the original Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) and MTW favorite Darcy Roberts (Curtains, Thoroughly Modern Millie, MTW’s The Andrews Brothers and The Pajama Game) will also join in the merriment of the yuletide season.
Home for the Holidays is Musical Theatre West’s annual concert of music of the yuletide season and features live singers and dancers with an onstage orchestra and special guests. This year’s performance will continue the tradition that Musical Theatre West has established by bringing together many of their stars from past productions in an all-new celebration of the Holiday Season. Santa Claus will make his traditional visit, and invite all of the children in the audience onstage to hear the classic Christmas story ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Once again Lee Martino will serve as director/choreographer for Home for the Holidays. Ms Martino is another MTW favorite, having recently choreographed their productions of Never Gonna Dance, Guys and Dolls (for which she was nominated for a Los Angeles Ovation Award), La Cage aux Folles, Mame, The Full Monty, All Shook Up (Ovation nomination-Best Choreographer) and Silk Stockings. The production will feature a live onstage orchestra and a chorus of dancers and singers.
