This is definitely an immature playwright. She breaks the two acts up so many times that you are praying for a commercial break. If I counted right, there were seven costume changes for the lead actor in the first act. That means seven scene changes. I've never seen so much squirming in the chairs for relief as during this performance. This was not because of conscience but out of being beaten over the head with the message so many times that it became unbearable. There were very respectable performances by the actors. The theater is always a pleasure to visit. This play, however, should be limited to one act of no more than 30 minutes.

This outstandingly written, acted (entire cast) and directed drama really got me thinking about how intimacy, intimacy of communication with others, leads to the road of understanding one's relationship with racism. As heavy as this may sound, and the play is heavy, the scattered moments of smart humor kept my emotional barometer in constant flux. I laughed, cried, cheered and I thought a lot. My mind finally turned off after the long drive home, but not before grasping and relating to the main point presented by lead character Dean Sarah Daniels -- something that I encourage others to discover for themselves, and possible about themselves. Don't miss this!

A well written show that is somewhat segmented/choppy, and predictable. A mixed bag of performances from "ok" to "very good". Unlike other reviews, I did find it a bit heavy-handed and preachy, but for a community theatre production, thought it was done nicely.

Description

African-American student Simon Brick is the victim of a racial assault at small Belmont College in Vermont. College administrators respond by presenting a politically-correct forum and by paying hypocritical "lip-service" to racial equality. More incidents against Simon occur and Dean of Students Sarah Daniels is asked to prepare a ten-point plan to resolve campus prejudice. She soon learns she cannot flee from her past and is forced to examine her own deep prejudice against minorities.
