The mood will definitely be festive and bright at the Carpenter as the legendary Harry James Orchestra does that thing called swing at this special holiday concert. The world-renowned big band, which has been bopping since the 1940s with popular tunes like "Two O'Clock Jump," "Skylark," "I'll Get By," "I Had the Craziest Dream" and more, is led by trumpet master Fred Radke, and will fill the auditorium with the jumping jazz sounds of Christmas favorites and other classic numbers.

We took our neighbors with us-both in their 70's. Bob had to bring his portable oxygen and the staff at the Carpenter center were so kind and accommodating for him. It was so easy getting to our seats and we all enjoyed an afternoon of beautiful music.

Fred Radke was simply amazing on the trumpet and his entire band was excellent. The seats were even better than we expected.

The Harry James Orchestra and their big band sounds were phenomenal! Much as it was advertised as a holiday concert, I hoped they would play a few non holiday big band tunes as well. They did. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't have been billed as a holiday concert due to the lack of holiday music! This was ok with me, with one big exception, the band leader's wife came out to sing with the band....um, nicely put, she NEEDS to retire. She was so off key much of the time that it was excruciating to sit through. And, I do not think that a big band should be playing show tunes to accompany the band leader's wife. Show tunes from Sound of Music were not meant to be played by big bands!

If it's not truly a holiday concert, then advertise it as a big band concert with some holiday music added as a bonus. That would have been better to know. As for this woman singing, I'm sure she is a nice lady, I'll bet she had a great voice back in the day, but please don't subject us inferior musicality when we are paying money to see the events!

The vocalist was out of sync with the orchestra. I did not like a medley of tunes from the sound of music in this venue. There are too many really great tunes from the big band era that she could have sung instead.
