The only thing more enjoyable than a tale involving hysterical pregnancies, strippers, murderous exes, trips to Costco and the Ice Capades? A tale about hysterical pregnancies, strippers, murderous exes, trips to Costco and the Ice Capades set to music. The Great American Trailer Park Musical delivers on all counts, living up to its name in every respect. Complete with a trashy Greek chorus of trailer park divas, Armadillo Acres is Florida's most exclusive mobile home community. But when a hot young stripper on the run comes between an agoraphobic housewife and her tollbooth collector husband, the hurricane of laughter begins to brew. Catch this campy, caustic musical fable now at the Bus Barn Theater. Learn More

On the whole, I'm glad to have seen this production of The Fantasticks, because I really enjoy the story and the music, but the quality was only so-so. I saw it on 9/5/13, which I believe was the first night tickets were available, so perhaps some of the unevenness will be smoothed out and some of the weak points improved over the course of the run. The actors playing Luisa and El Gallo were the strongest in a cast of varying acting, singing, and dancing capabilities. Their scenes and the ones involving the parents were among the most enjoyable. One of the biggest disappointments, on the other hand, was the virtual lack of chemistry between Luisa and Matt, which took almost all charm and enchantment out of their pivotal scenes. Also, the actor playing Matt did not have much oomph behind his signing, so, even though he sang the songs nicely, his singing seemed weak, and that lowered the energy level of his scenes. I'm relieved to have seen this performance with discounted tickets, because I fear I would have felt cheated had I paid full price, especially given the much higher quality theatre I've seen elsewhere for the same price.
