Sondheim's Follies: Tony-Winning Broadway Hit at the Ahmanson

Full Price:
$95.00 - $110.00
Our Price:
$47.50 - $55.00

The Kennedy Center's critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Follies, currently nominated for eight 2012 Tony Awards, comes to the Ahmanson Theatre, where it's receiving equally stellar reviews. It's the haunting story of two troubled couples who reunite at the decrepit theater where the ladies once performed, facing the ghosts of the past and the harsh reality of the present. Featuring a memorable score by Sondheim, including such enduring songs as "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here," the show is also a riveting look at the deterioration of the American dream -- a crack in the plaster of the gilded age of Broadway. Director Eric Schaeffer is joined by much of his original cast -- with 41 performers, it's one of the largest ever on this stage -- as well as a 28-piece orchestra. Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark joins the production, while reprising their roles from the New York show are 2012 Tony nominees Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines. Learn More

Extremely powerful and poignant drama. Jane Fonda is mesmerizing and capable of commanding your attention with incredible nuance and poise. Kaufman's play had me thinking about music, family, career and mortality. So many issues presented thoughtfully and with a lot of delicate class. This was one of those rare theater moments I'll never forget.

Description

A Beethoven scholar is driven to solve the genius’ greatest mystery while her own life rumbles around her: all gracefully underscored by  live pianist Diane Walsh sharing the stage. In a journey that spans 200 years, 33 Variations is a sublime waltz between past and present, fact and speculation, art and life, mother and daughter.

Two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda heads a cast of eight in the new American play written and directed by Moisés Kaufman (author of The Laramie Project and director of I Am My Own  Wife and Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo). The 2009 Broadway run of 33 Variations was nominated for a total of five Tony Awards, including a nomination for Zach Grenier. The Tectonic Theater Project production of 33 Variations is produced by special arrangement with David Binder.
