Never mind it's Saturday, school is in session -- old school, that is -- as some of the greatest acts in funk, R&B and soul reunite for Old School Saturday Night at the Greek Theatre. Between them, these six acts have amassed a stack of gold and platinum records, several No. 1 hits and a Grammy. Let the memories come flooding back as you hear Morris Day and the Time ("Jungle Love," "The Bird"), Lakeside ("Fantastic Voyage"), Ready for the World ("Oh Sheila"), Alexander O'Neal ("Saturday Love"), Taste of Honey ("Boogie Oogie Oogie") and Yarbrough and Peoples ("Don't Stop The Music") perform live during this concert under the stars. What a concert!!! Enjoyed every act, except BRENTON WOOD was on way too long. His set was longer than THE MAIN INGREDIENT and THE STYLISTICS... who closed the evening with all their wonderful hits! All Brenton Wood's music has two (2) main chord changes and is in the same "12/8 ballad" feel. He has two hit up-tempo songs, but only did one of them, "Oogum Boogum", opting for more ballads (and ballads need a good vocal and his 71 year old voice was not the greatest...which did not help his songs or set.) It got to be very boring. But overall, this was a really wonderful evening! Took me back to high school days (I think some folks thought they were back in high school by the smell of "weed" in the night air. I was in that second level and you could have gotten a contact high as the evening went on.) So glad I was there.
