Two men, one an artist and the other a mysterious stranger, strike up a seemingly innocent conversation at a seaside resort. As they exchange increasingly intimate perspectives on art, marriage and women -- in particular, the artist's wife -- undercurrents of sexuality, language and economics explode into a tangled web of intrigue, suspicion and revenge in this gripping 19th-century psychological thriller. Deliciously dark and funny, this co-production with the New American Theatre of August Strindberg's Creditors is a story of vengeance, jealousy and psychological warfare that helped pave the way for modern Scandinavian noir. This show is good for kids too. I took my 10 year old who understood what was happening. She had a great time. The Odyssey Theatre has valet parking, but I'd get there at least 30 minutes before the show starts. I was excited that I could "stare gaze" in the lobby. Fun and quick paced! Midsummer is a five act play, but with smart cuts and lots of energy, this version clocked in at 2 1/2 hours. Shakespeare can sometimes be hard to grasp, but this talented cast does a great job of being able to convey it and make it immediately understandable. Whether you're a Shakespeare connoisseur or have never seen one of his plays, I think this is a great one to check out.
