Denny and Joey, two of Chicago's less-than-finest cops, have forged a lifelong bond on the rough streets of the Windy City. A Steady Rain captures the buddy duo at a time when their friendship, their badges and Denny's family come under fire as the result of a domestic disturbance call gone bad. When the horrific truth of the situation is revealed, one of them must take the blame for a fatal mistake. Jeff Perry, co-founder of Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre Company, directs this riveting drama that reveals the flaws and humanity of two lifelong friends doomed by their tragic fates. This show is good for kids too. I took my 10 year old who understood what was happening. She had a great time. The Odyssey Theatre has valet parking, but I'd get there at least 30 minutes before the show starts. I was excited that I could "stare gaze" in the lobby. Fun and quick paced! Midsummer is a five act play, but with smart cuts and lots of energy, this version clocked in at 2 1/2 hours. Shakespeare can sometimes be hard to grasp, but this talented cast does a great job of being able to convey it and make it immediately understandable. Whether you're a Shakespeare connoisseur or have never seen one of his plays, I think this is a great one to check out.
