Peter and the Starcatcher, the multiple Tony Award-winning show that The New York Times called "the most exhilarating storytelling on Broadway in decades," is the swashbuckling, madcap prequel to Peter Pan. A dozen actors play more than 100 characters, combining their acting talent with ingenious stagecraft and an imaginative story to reveal the origins of "the boy who wouldn't grow up." The musical play takes a hilarious romp through the Neverland you never knew in an action-packed adventure that brings pirates, orphans and secret agents of the Queen together on the high seas. Based on the bestselling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and written by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), Peter and the Starcatcher boasts an all-star creative team and weaves an enchanting tale that appeals to both adults and kids. The singing and dancing were fun. But I was hoping to learn a bit about the life of Fats Waller - and there was none of this info. Also, had a hard time understanding the words to the songs. In short, it was a jazz concert with onstage dancing, not a piece of theater. Good show, wrong venue.

I enjoyed the music-singers and the very good band. I would call it a pleasant evening. There was good mixture of dance, song, and humor. I did not get all of the words when they were speaking and would have liked them to speak up.

At the height of the historic Harlem Renaissance, venues like The Cotton Club were jumpin’ to a new beat called “swing.” Ain’t Misbehavin’ is a rollicking, finger-snapping, toe-tapping, Tony Award®-winning musical revue — a tribute to the black entertainers of the early 1900’s that centers on the music of one of the most prolific musicians of the time, Thomas “Fats” Waller.

Recreated by original director Richard Maltby, Jr. (Tony Award®, Best Direction) for an exclusive Center Theatre Group engagement, Ain’t Misbehavin’ is vibrantly told with infectious energy and the cheeky humor for which Waller was known.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ features 30 famous, high-energy tunes including “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Black and Blue” and “The Joint is Jumpin’.”
