American Dead is an elegiac rendering of the death of another American small town. The story is deceptively simple, often humorous. As a man grieves for his murdered sister his town continues wasting away, having been blighted by the closing of industry, the death of the family farm and the prevalence of methamphetamine.

Everything was top notch, from the stellar cast, the amazing set to the memorable story. It's certainly not for everyone, just anyone who wants to see a play that will stay with you for quite some time. Superb!

Great sets, decent acting, but a tiresome play. In all fairness, I never made it throught he second act because the first act was so tedious I couldn't take sitting through any more of it. Maybe I missed a great performance, but I doubt it.

'Revives' a faith in the possibility of excellent theater in Los Angeles - extraordinary ensemble cast, imaginative and wonderful use of space. If you are an actor, you must see this play - the work of these actors will ground and inspire you. If you are a writer, you must see this play - these actors and their talent will compel you to write. If you are weary of prepackaged, blandly acted television and film stories that pander to the lowest denominator, you must see this play - your intellect and sense of humanity will thank you. But hurry - this show closes next week!

Description

The West Coast Premiere of AMERICAN DEAD brings some of this generations best writing, directing, and acting to life in Los Angeles. Award winning playwright Brett Neveu taps the comical dramatic vein of a small American town as it erodes, making a normal life untenable for some..and inspired survivors out of others! Originally commissioned by Steppenwolf.

A very powerful, yet smartly subtle observation of the human condition.
