Quotes & Highlights

  • "RAY JESSEL is the millennium Noel Coward! He writes with wit, heart, humor and passion. I love his songs." --Michael Feinstein
  • "Zimmerman's lacerating wit and keen awareness of society's foibles bring to mind a latter day Tom Lehrer." -- LA Times

Description

Jeannine Frank's "accidental" performing arts series (now in its 15th year!) has finally found a place to call home -- Steinway Hall (a lovely 100-seat recital hall at Fields Piano Store in West LA). For starters, she'll be launching a Friday night series, On a Humorous Note, featuring original cabaret, comedy and solo performance.

Frequently compared to Tom Lehrer and Randy Newman, Marie Cain has opened for Steve Martin, toured with Lily Tomlin, played piano for Billy Crystal, appeared on the Tonight Show, and wrote a musical with Shel Silverstein. She wrote many songs for the hit musicals, Naked Boys Singing (running in NY for over two years) and Too Old for the Chorus and her hilarious TV & radio commercials are heard around the country. From politics to plastic surgery, no issue is too sacred for Marie to confront head-on and rhyme internally!

Senior Citizen Cabaret Darling Ray Jessel JESSEL was the last lyricist to work with Richard Rodgers,(on I Remember Mama) and was was co-composer / lyricist of the Broadway Sherlock Holmes musical Baker Street. He has had songs recorded by Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante, Richard Burton, Sammy Davis Jr. and Vikki Carr and is represented on recent CD's by Michael Feinstein, John Pizzarelli, David Campbell & Karen Akers.

Making his debut (at 72!) as a Cabaret performer at L.A.'s Gardenia in April 2002, he has since played a series of sell-out performances there, at Danny's Skylight Room in New York, in Toronto, Palm Springs and San Francisco.

Singing social satirst Roy Zimmerman was the creator of the hilarious political satirical quartet The Foremen (Warner/Reprise recording artists) and has been compared to Tom Lehrer. Roy (on his own or with The Foremen) has opened for Bill Maher, Dennis Miller and Paula Poundstone. As a headliner he can keep the audience in stitches for two hours with his brilliant takes on politics,
body piercing, social mores and love.
