A scandal when it first debuted, Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata went on to become the composer's most popular opera. Featuring some of the world's best known arias, this bittersweet love story is a glorious depiction of the opulent Roaring '20s. La Traviata tells the grand story of the beautiful, pleasure-loving but frail Violetta Valéry, who unexpectedly finds true love with a younger man, resulting in tragic consequences. One of opera's greatest romances, La Traviata returns in Marta Domingo's dazzlingly updated art deco-inspired production. Nino Machaidze, one of LA Opera's favorite leading ladies, returns as Violetta, with Arturo Chacón-Cruz as her handsome Alfredo. The incomparable Plácido Domingo returns in one of his newest signature roles, as a father determined to do the right thing. Learn More

This was a fun event, very imaginatively staged and directed, and surprisingly very funny!! Our seats were excellent! Goldstar service is very much appreciated. It's a great way to see shows that might otherwise be too expensive to take a chance on.

A pre-performance lecture led by Mitchell Morris will take place one hour prior to the performance.
Academy Award winner William Friedkin directs a fascinating new production of Richard Strauss’s opera Ariadne auf Naxos. Chaos behind the scenes spills out of the wings and onto the stage when a vain diva is forced to share the stage with a troupe of comedians.
Real-life couple soprano Petra Maria Schnitzer and tenor Peter Seiffert are the noble Ariadne and Bacchus, whose transcendent melodies scale the heights with almost unbearable beauty. Mezzo soprano Lioba Braun makes her Company debut as the distraught Composer, whose opera nearly gets lost in the shuffle. Coloratura sopranos Lyubov Petrova and Laura Claycomb dazzle as Zerbinetta, the coloratura comedienne whose antics inject a note of delightfully bawdy humor into the proceedings.
Academy Award winning director William Friedkin returns to Los Angeles Opera for this charming new production. Music Director Kent Nagano conducts a beguiling and passionate blend of romance and comedy.
A pre-performance lecture, led by Mitchell Morris, will take place one hour prior to each performance. Pre-performance lectures are generously sponsored by the Flora L. Thornton Foundation and the Opera League of Los Angeles.
