Now in its 60th year, the pioneering Paul Taylor Dance Company stages several of its acclaimed pieces at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Dubbed the "naughty boy" of dance by Martha Graham, Taylor's not only one of the greatest modern choreographers of the 20th century, he's also one of the 21st century's most daring innovators, still creating well into his 80s. His 16-member company embodies his continuing genius and nurtures new talent -- Tony winners Twyla Tharp and David Parsons are among its many distinguished alumni. Expect a wonderful show of kinetic movement, enthralling storytelling and surprising humor from one of the true legends of the form. Learn More

This was a fun event, very imaginatively staged and directed, and surprisingly very funny!! Our seats were excellent! Goldstar service is very much appreciated. It's a great way to see shows that might otherwise be too expensive to take a chance on.
Quotes & Highlights
- "Lively, inventive, funny, visually stunning...an all-out uproarious satire." Variety
- "Four Stars." Financial Times
- A pre-performance lecture led by Mitchell Morris will take place one hour prior to the performance.
Academy Award winner William Friedkin directs a fascinating new production of Richard Strauss's opera Ariadne auf Naxos. Chaos behind the scenes spills out of the wings and onto the stage when a vain diva is forced to share the stage with a troupe of comedians.
Real-life couple soprano Petra Maria Schnitzer and tenor Peter Seiffert are the noble Ariadne and Bacchus, whose transcendent melodies scale the heights with almost unbearable beauty. Mezzo soprano Lioba Braun makes her Company debut as the distraught Composer, whose opera nearly gets lost in the shuffle. Coloratura sopranos Lyubov Petrova and Laura Claycomb dazzle as Zerbinetta, the coloratura comedienne whose antics inject a note of delightfully bawdy humor into the proceedings.
Academy Award winning director William Friedkin returns to Los Angeles Opera for this charming new production. Music Director Kent Nagano conducts a beguiling and passionate blend of romance and comedy.
A pre-performance lecture, led by Mitchell Morris, will take place one hour prior to each performance. Pre-performance lectures are generously sponsored by the Flora L. Thornton Foundation and the Opera League of Los Angeles.
