Sondheim's Follies: Tony-Winning Broadway Hit at the Ahmanson

Full Price:
$95.00 - $110.00
Our Price:
$47.50 - $55.00

The Kennedy Center's critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Follies, currently nominated for eight 2012 Tony Awards, comes to the Ahmanson Theatre, where it's receiving equally stellar reviews. It's the haunting story of two troubled couples who reunite at the decrepit theater where the ladies once performed, facing the ghosts of the past and the harsh reality of the present. Featuring a memorable score by Sondheim, including such enduring songs as "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here," the show is also a riveting look at the deterioration of the American dream -- a crack in the plaster of the gilded age of Broadway. Director Eric Schaeffer is joined by much of his original cast -- with 41 performers, it's one of the largest ever on this stage -- as well as a 28-piece orchestra. Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark joins the production, while reprising their roles from the New York show are 2012 Tony nominees Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines. Learn More

My expectations were exceeded for this musical! Sure, it was cheesy, but that's what "Bring It On" is all about. The dancing/cheer-leading routines were fun and the songs, once the main character got to the rival high school, were catchy.

I have to be honest, Bring It On was definitely not on my To Watch list. There were two reasons why i decided to attend: 1) I had no plans on a Tuesday night. 2) Goldstar.com offered a low ticket price. All i can say is thank you Goldstar! Bring It On was amazing! The performances were great, the chemistry between performers was amazing, the stunts were awesome, and the on-stage energy ... the energy was electrifying! To anyone looking to have a wonderful evening: Attend Bring It On performance - you won't regret it.

I took my 13-year old daughter - my regular date to the thea-TUH - and as the intermission lights came up, asked her, "I wonder why this isn't a huge, Wicked-sized hit?" Then I read the program and found out this is only the second city the production has played. It hasn't even reached Broadway yet! Do yourself a favor, get your butt in a seat when this musical hits your town. Contemporary songs, crazy acrobatic-style dancing, funny script, cute characters. Probably best enjoyed with a teenager in tow, but either way one of the best modern musicals I've seen in years.

Description

Bring It On: The Musical is the explosive new musical comedy that raises the stakes on over-the-top high school rivalries. Set against the world of competitive cheerleading, this powerhouse new show hilariously proves that winning isn't everything when it means losing something -- or someone -- you really care about.

This all-new, original musical comedy combines an exciting new sound, gravity-defying choreography, and a thrilling story to create a show worth cheering for. It's "guaranteed to be everything you wished for, nothing like you expected, but exactly what you will love" (AOL.com). Game On!

The team behind this musical is an extraordinarily rare union of Broadway's most acclaimed, award-winning young creators. With an original book by Tony Award-winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), music by Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composer Tom Kitt Next to Normal and lyrics by Broadway lyricist Amanda Green (High Fidelity), this wholly original new musical is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler (In the Heights).
