Songs for a New World -- A Theatrical Song Cycle by Jason Robert Brown (13, Parade)

Full Price:
$30.00
Our Price:
FREE - $15.00

Doma Theater Co. presents Songs for a New World, from composer Jason Robert Brown, creator of the acclaimed musicals 13 and Parade. This is Brown's first theatrical work, originally produced off-Broadway in 1995 and described by the composer as neither a musical nor a revue, but rather a "very theatrical song cycle." The series of songs are thematically connected, illustrating points of major decision in the characters' lives. The songs are performed by four cast members who play different characters throughout. The vocally demanding score is influenced by multiple genres, including pop, gospel, jazz and classical. Learn More

The perfect show to see right now with our elections coming up soon..Scandals, dishonesty, campaign commercials shown on a big screen were very well done..Very inventive. Some of the songs were really beautiful..It's a bit rough , a very new show, but certainly deserved a production and hopefully will see a nice life in future productions.. I think the producers were very wise to get it on it's feet and I think we will be hearing more about it in the future and remember seeing it's very first production. Our audience was small but the cast still gave it it's all, which is not easy on a rainy sunday afternoon to a very small house..but they put their hearts and souls into every moment and we thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. And it was FUN! ..

The cast tried really hard, but unfortunately I do not think there was much to work with. I thought the performance of Travis Dixon as Steve Meyer was exceptional. His singing, dancing and acting were right on.

More Information About Campaign: World Premiere of an Election Musical

Description

Campaign
Book by Samuel Warren Joseph
Music and lyrics by Samuel Warren Joseph and Jon Detherage
Musical director: Jon Detherage
Directed by T.J. Castronovo

Glenn Mann is running for governor. He’s a moderate candidate with sensible ideas for making his state run better. He’s also a pompous, arrogant jerk, a philandering creep who can’t keep his zipper shut while extolling Family Values. Fortunately for Mann, his opponent, Malcolm Puffington, is politically to the right of Attila the Hun, and so thoroughly vile that he makes Glenn Mann look like a cross between Gandhi and Mother Teresa.

Puffington is a rich guy who has thrown millions and millions of his cash into the campaign in a bid to get elected (sound familiar?). Mann is running fifteen points behind Puffington in the polls.

To the rescue: Mann’s campaign manager Steve Meyer and press secretary Brenda Malloy. Each is an independent spirit and they fight like cats and dogs. Is there any chance these two attractive people will get together? Don’t be too hasty to bet money on it; she’s having an affair with the married Glenn Mann.

Things are just starting to look up for candidate Mann when he gets caught up in yet another sex scandal. Can he possibly clear himself? Will his hard-working staff be able to help him defeat the evil Puffington and keep the state from being hurled back into the Dark Ages? Can the good of the people and true love possibly prevail?

The cast of Campaign includes Josie Adams, Jean Altadel, Brian Byers, Stephanie Carrie, Travis Dixon, Barbara Keegan, Jase Lindgren, Cindy Marinangel, Max Middleton and Julianna Zumille.
