Carla Zilbersmith was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in January, but that isn't stopping her from performing. Currently on her "Grateful Not-Yet-Dead Redhead" Tour, Carla will perform music from her new CD, Extraordinary Renditions, with pianist John R. Burr (Alison Brown, Maria Muldaur), drummer David Rokeach (Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin) and bassist John Evans (currently with Tori Amos). All profits from this event will bridge the gap not covered by Carla's health insurance. More information about the fund and Carla can be found at www.quiltmamas.com/dmc/.
Zilbersmith's solo show, Wedding Singer Blues, ran at the Coronet and Hayworth theatres in 2006 and was described as "bitingly funny" by LA Weekly. The Los Angeles Times called her "a strong-voiced find with a knack for spot-on characterizations that recalls Lily Tomlin."
While facing the extraordinary challenges of this debilitating disease, Carla continues to inspire and amaze her friends and fans. Her insightful, honest and often humorous observations about life can be read at http://carlamuses.blogspot.com.
