Description

‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore follows other triumphant Cheek by Jowl Jacobean tragedies The Changeling (2006) and__The Duchess of Malfi __(1995). Formed in 1981 by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, Cheek by Jowl has performed in 301 cities in more than 40 countries.

Declan Donnellan is joint Artistic Director of Cheek by Jowl with Nick Ormerod. The company’s work in English already seen in the U.S. includes Macbeth, the Duchess of Malfi, and As You Like It, and in Russian,Twelfth Night (BAM, New York). Boris Godunov has been performed at the Lincoln Center, New York and__Three Sisters__ at the Kennedy Center in Washington dc. As Associate Directors at the National Theatre, their productions include: Fuente OvejunaSweeney Todd and the European premiere of Angels in America. Other credits include: The Winter’s Tale for the Maly Theatre St Petersburg, in Russian and Andromaque for the Bouffes Du Nord, in French. Opera: Falstaff for the Salzburg Festival, Ballet: Romeo and Juliet at the Bolshoi. Film: Bel Ami. Donnellan’s many awards include the Olivier for Outstanding Achievement. He is a Chevalier de L’Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres in France and President of the Russian Theatre Confederation Foundation.
