Bruce Norris' 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy-drama puts a new spin on Lorraine Hansberry's classic A Raisin in the Sun. The play cleverly examines both real estate and race relations in a northwest Chicago neighborhood fifty years apart. In 1959, a white couple sets off a community controversy when they inadvertently sell their bungalow to the area's first black family. Half-a-century later, gentrification issues arise when a black couple clashes with a white couple who want to buy and demolish the house. The same set of actors portray the couples in both time periods. The entire original Playwrights Horizons' off-Broadway cast, Crystal A. Dickinson, Brendan Griffin, Damon Gupton, Christina Kirk, Annie Parisse, Jeremy Shamos and Frank Wood, reunite along with original director Pam MacKinnon for this production at the Mark Taper Forum. I found this an incredibly well acted (I can't imagine any way in which the performance I saw could have been bettered) and very moving play.Written on Jun 06 2006

Description
Martin has it all. He's a world-class architect with a loving wife and a comfortable relationship with his gay teenage son. He's just landed a lucrative contract and is about to receive a prestigious international prize. But when Martin confides to his best friend a secret that could destroy him, his marital bliss takes a sharp turn, threatening his family and career. A darkly funny, passionate play about the limits of compassion, understanding and tolerance, and the nature of love itself.
Edward Albee's most provocative and controversial play since Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. The Goat won four major awards including the Tony Award for best new play. A three-time Pulitzer Prize-winner, Albee's extensive work includes Three Tall Women, presented at the Taper in 1996.
