Kathleen Turner in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins

Full Price:
$67.00 - $87.00
Our Price:
$34.50 - $44.50

The Geffen Playhouse presents the story of Molly Ivins, the outspoken sharp-witted Texas reporter whose liberal journalism brought her national fame and a job at The New York Times, where she wrote Elvis Presley's obituary. Two-time Tony and Oscar nominee Kathleen Turner plays the fiery redhead, a self-proclaimed "pain in the ass to whatever powers come to be." Though The New York Times had hired Ivins to bring life to its staid writing style, her political edginess and controversial social commentary eventually proved to be too much, and Ivins moved on to Texas papers that embraced her sharp-tongued humor. This acclaimed show captures Ivins' unique character using personal anecdotes and her colorful take on national politics. Learn More

Sorry, I guess I'm not intelligent enough to appreciate this play. Part of the problem was that it is verbose and I was sitting in the very back row. Maybe if I had been sitting in the middle of the theater I could have understood better what all the words were about. If someone who saw it wants to "explain" to me what I missed, please write. Thanks. boland7214@aol.com

Brilliant wriitng, the best written play I've seen in some time. Fabulous stage set and good direction. Acting uneven but some brilliant. Overall this was just a fantastic evening of theater and I'd recommend it to anyone. Some familiarity with Shakespeare and the era will make it even more enjoyable. I loved this show and bought tickets to see it a second time.

Brilliant writing and hard working, spot on cast. One of the most thought provoking and powerful plays we've attended in quite some time. Tense drama with wonderfully wry comedic moments throughout. I would recommend Equivocation highly, but not to every one of my friends. Requires a literate audience with an appreciation for history and politics.

Brilliant! Intelligent, funny, adult, humane, thought-provoking. Beautifully written, directed and acted. Loved the use of contemporary language and costume which steered blessedly clear of any Renaissance Faire feel. Time flew by.

Description

Join Shakespeare and his winsome troupe in this fantastic new tale that satiates Bard-loving purists and advocates of groundbreaking theater alike. The runaway hit of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and a sure-to-be classic, Equivocation pits the poetry of the world’s greatest playwright against the word of his King. Written in modern English with playful allusions to some of the Bard’s greatest works, Equivocation’s gripping narrative, keen humor and political intrigue culminate in what critics are calling “dazzling,” “a masterful work” and “the must-see play of the season.”
