Based on the orchestras of Baroque Italy, the 15-piece Europa Galante brings the richness of a 17th-century string ensemble to life by playing period instruments. Under the direction of master violinist Fabio Biondi, the Grammy-nominated ensemble performs a program consisting largely of works from their countryman Antonio Vivaldi -- a master violinist himself -- including excerpts from his operas Catone in Utica and Tito Manilo, among others. They're joined by mezzo-soprano Vivica Geneaux, who's also well-known for her interpretations of Baroque and bel canto music.

An outstanding musical event combining equal portions of musical virtuosity, scholarship, and emotional expressiveness. This ensemble and soloist rank among the finest in this repertoire in the world and LA was lucky to experience them live in concert.
