Outstanding Cast!! Fun night out at low cost! I liked the performances so much, that I already purchased my tickets for other shows that are coming up this year. If you looking for somthing that is a bit different than the norm, and at the same time is fun for the whole family, then go to one of the performances of this production company. I highly recommend it!!

I enjoyed the evening more than I expected to. The performances were quite humerous for the most parts and kept me entertained thoughout. I often tried to close my eyes and listen to it as I would be if it were actually comming over the radio, but often times had to cheat as the antics and facial expression from the readers made it impossible. I would definitely check it out again. It was loads of fun.

The show definitely got off to a slow, boring start as the group didn't start with the script but first revived the ghost of Orson Welles and did a very schmaltzy, Hollywood type thing where all of the actors took turns coming up on the stage and engaging in not so witty banter about asking for a larger part in the show. This part definitely dragged.

The show itself: started by following the original script exactly, then a few contemporary comments were thrown in, then it went to full-blown improv at points. The middle phase was probably the best, but I think they should be more honest that it's not an exact recreation given the extreme variability. However, the woman who played Dorothy had a great singing voice and was wonderful.

One more annoying sidenote: one of the members of the group was going around with a camera phone taking pictures during the show. This was both annoying and distracting. Plus, what kind of production images are taken with a blackberry with 1.3 megapixels? Ugg.

Quotes & Highlights

  • Pick of the Week -- LA Weekly
  • "Think radio is no longer worth a listen? Maybe you're listening in the wrong place. The professional actors, voiceover artists, and comedians of Fake Radio will bring you back to the dial, theater-style."--Los Angeles City Beat
  • "A talented ensemble, along with a few surprise guests (Marcia Wallace did a tasty turn as the Wicked Witch of the West last month), read and improv their way through 90 minutes of funny fakery (they haven't rehearsed). They even sing and dance (very well by the way) if the script calls for it - which of course the Wizard of Oz did."--eyespyla.com

<p>"Fake Radio" is a troupe of talented actors, comedians & guest stars who re-create live, staged versions of radio broadcasts from the 1930's-1950's! Performances use actual transcripts from radio shows, including all of the original commercials! One part historical and one part hysterical, these shows recapture a lost era while introducing new generations to a classic art form!</p> <p>Past guest stars include:
Jeff Garlin, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"
Mark McKinney, "The Kids in the Hall"
Dean Cain, "The New Adventures of Superman"
Marcia Wallace, "The Simpsons" & "The Bob Newhart Show"
Debora Wilson, "MadTV"
Maria Bamford, "Comedy Central Presents" & "Comedians of Comedy"
John Lynch,"The Drew Carey Show", "Fargo"
Tom Kenny, "Mr. Show" & The voice of "SpongeBob Squarepants"
Denny Siegel, "Whose Line is it Anyway?!?"
Cathy Ladman, "The Aristocrats" </p> <p>The show captures the magic of being in the studio audience during a live taping of an old time radio show. The troupe performs as was done in the Golden Age: standing before microphones, with scripts in hand and sound effects synchronized perfectly. Only, they risk a bit more: in order to bring a reverent, yet comedic attack on the classic scripts, the talented troupe & guest stars rehearse just one hour before showtime. Improvisations are not uncommon...and gleefully welcomed by audiences!</p>
