The Kennedy Center's critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Follies, currently nominated for eight 2012 Tony Awards, comes to the Ahmanson Theatre, where it's receiving equally stellar reviews. It's the haunting story of two troubled couples who reunite at the decrepit theater where the ladies once performed, facing the ghosts of the past and the harsh reality of the present. Featuring a memorable score by Sondheim, including such enduring songs as "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here," the show is also a riveting look at the deterioration of the American dream -- a crack in the plaster of the gilded age of Broadway. Director Eric Schaeffer is joined by much of his original cast -- with 41 performers, it's one of the largest ever on this stage -- as well as a 28-piece orchestra. Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark joins the production, while reprising their roles from the New York show are 2012 Tony nominees Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines.

Full Price:
$80.00 - $90.00
Our Price:
$40.00 - $45.00

The final musical collaboration by the legendary theater team of John Kander and Fred Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret and Kiss of the Spider Woman) comes to Los Angeles for a run at the Ahmanson Theatre. This surprising and inspiring story is based on the Scottsboro case from the '30s concerning nine young African-American men who were unjustly accused of a shocking crime and whose story would eventually contribute to the Civil Rights Movement. The Scottsboro Boys is told through a mix of innovative staging and piercing songs, and garnered 12 Tony Award nominations. This production is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers). Learn More

We had never seen this show and were afraid it would be cloying, based on the storyline. Instead, we were amazed and glad we finally got around to checking it out. Really great story, staging, songs and performances. Thanks for making it easy - Goldstar!

Wonderful staging and costumes. Splendid cast with good voices, especially D. Burstein. The second act Loveland setting is magical vaudeville and really makes the show a success. Top production by D.C's John F Kennedy Center, which played well on Broadway and then went to L.A. with everyone in the cast except for Bernadette Peters, whose part was ably played by Victoria Clark.

Description

“We are tremendously proud to bring Follies to the Ahmanson,” said Michael Ritchie, Artistic Director. “It is a coup for Center Theatre Group to get it and a gift for Los Angeles audiences to receive it.”

With an extraordinarily 28-piece orchestra, Follies features one of the largest casts (forty-one) ever to appear on the Ahmanson stage. Follies stars four-time Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Tony Award winner Victoria Clark as Sally Durant Plummer, two-time Tony Award nominee Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, three-time Emmy Award nominee Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone and Olivier Award winner Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion. Maxwell, Burstein, Raines and Paige are all returning to the roles they originated on Broadway.

Also returning to their roles are Christian Delcroix as Young Buddy, Colleen Fitzpatrick as Dee Dee West, Lora Lee Gayer as Young Sally, Michael Hayes as Roscoe, Leah Horowitz as Young Heidi, Tony Award nominee Jayne Houdyshell as Hattie Walker, Florence Lacey as Sandra Crane, Tony Award nominee Mary Beth Peil as Solange LaFitte, David Sabin as Dimitri Weismann, Kirsten Scott as Young Phyllis, Frederick Strother as Max Deems, Nick Verina as Young Ben, Tony Award nominee Susan Watson as Emily Whitman, and Terri White as Stella Deems. They are joined by Grammy Award winner Carol Neblett as Heidi Schiller and Tony Award winner Sammy Williams as Theodore Whitman, plus a 20-member song and dance ensemble.

Containing such well-known songs as “Broadway Baby,” “I’m Still Here,” “Too Many Mornings,” “Could I Leave You?” and “Losing My Mind,” Follies echoes the songs, exuberance and romance of the vaudeville days between the two World Wars.
